Behind the Headshots: Working with Matt Lishman Photography
When creating a therapy practice, how you show up visually matters. Headshots are often the first point of connection for clients, and it’s important that they feel warm, approachable, and reflective of who you are—not stiff or overly polished.
I had the opportunity to work with Matt Lishman Photography for my professional headshots, and the experience was thoughtful, comfortable, and genuinely positive.
A Comfortable and Grounded Experience
For many people, having photos taken can feel awkward or uncomfortable. Matt approaches photography in a way that immediately puts you at ease. The focus isn’t on forcing a pose or getting the “perfect” shot, but on creating a relaxed environment where you can show up naturally.
This approach made a noticeable difference. The process felt calm, unrushed, and respectful, which allowed the images to reflect authenticity rather than performance.
Why This Matters in Therapy
In therapy, trust and connection are essential. A headshot is often the first impression someone has before reaching out, and it should reflect safety, warmth, and professionalism.
Working with a photographer who understands how to create that sense of ease made it possible for my headshots to align with the values of Turning Point Psychotherapy and Wellness—approachability, presence, and authenticity.
Aligned Values, Different Work
While photography and psychotherapy are very different professions, both rely on creating a space where people feel comfortable being themselves. Matt’s ability to hold that space during the headshot process mirrors the importance of trust and attunement in therapeutic work.
I’m grateful for the care and intention Matt brought to this experience, and for images that truly reflect how I hope clients feel when they encounter Turning Point for the first time.
